From a theatre design background (BA Hons Theatre Design at Central St Martin’s) Tahra started her professional career costume assisting on major West End musicals including the world premiere of The Phantom of the Opera and Aspects of Love.

Tahra moved on to design set and costumes for projects of her own, mainly operas, such as Eugene Onegin for English National Opera, The Rake’s Progress for the Aldeburgh Festival, and La Boheme for Mid Wales Opera, the year the when they won the Prudential Award.

The varied media disciplines Tahra worked in, came together when she was asked to supervise fabrication of the animals in the theatre version of Dr Dolittle in 1998, the first time a special effects technique perfected for film was applied to a stage musical with the attendant problems of eight shows a week and a live audience. She has subsequently worked on projects that employ the same multimedia approach such as The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, The Musical the UK 2019 tour and 3 Musketeers for Endemol in Rotterdam and Berlin.

Her costume, puppet and character design work can be seen in UK tours of In The Night Garden Live and Bing Live.
